Paper mills unpaid over time wages 6-years


PT. Esa Kertas Nusantara located in Karawang, West Java, Indonesia which produces printing paper with brands Aviator, Byzantium, Infinite Copy, Copy Fit, and Printec that distributed globally to Asia, Australia, India, Africa and USA. The company employs 400 permanent workers and 800 contract labor outsourcing.



Since 2006 the workers workedover the working hours specified by the labor regulations in Indonesia without the payment of overtime.

This makes Union of PT. Esa Kertas Nusantara (SPEKN) requires companies to pay overtime for the excess hours. Supposedly they are entitled to payment for overtime work for 6 years but labor regulations only accommodate the latest 2-year wage demands. The number of excess overtime hours is 819 hours.

Company only agreed to pay half of the union demands and negotiation have been deadlock. If basic rights are still not paid then the strike will be conducted on 22-24 October 2012.

Unions of PT. Esa Kertas Nusantara (SPEKN) affiliated to the Indonesia Federation of Pulp and Paper Workers’ Union(FSP2KI) and the National Union Confederation (KSN) as well as internationally to IndustriALL Global Union.
